PHILOSOPHY
from the Greek, Philos (loving) and Sophos (wise) = The Love of Knowledge
Dr. Speedbump hopes to help alleviate social dis-ease by injecting a dose of this love into a vein of society. I would have said the ass of society, but I thought you'd be insulted.
Alas ...
We are surrounded by a deep and abiding stupidity.
-- Bob Herbert, New York Times News Service
But didn't some wise man say that "Ignorance is bliss"?
Not exactly -- the poem by Gray (1742) said:
Thought would destroy their paradise. No more;
Where ignorance is bliss, 'Tis folly to be wise.
Yeah, I know that ignorance and stupidity are not the same -- I've met many intelligent ignorami -- but we'll quibble about semantics some other day. So, let's move on ...
Here's an excerpt from one of my favorite poems,
especially for ACOA's,
or anyone interested in psychotherapy,
or anyone at all:
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time
-- T.S. Eliot, The Four Quartets
Thus ends my lecture on the subject of knowledge, for today.
